Preface for the 2nd Edition
For more than 10 years, many people asked me: "When will the Eissler book be completed". It was a long time for people to wait but it was necessary. Records had to be located, then carefully checked against my writing, then sometimes revised and revised again before completing the book. As life went on over the years, things changed, some of the family regretfully passed on, children grew and married, married couples had children and then there were more grandchildren that joined the family.
With the completion of the 1st edition, many Eissler families showed great interest in the book, and the stock was quickly depleted. Family members who weren´t listed in the book, or who had incomplete information, got in touch with me, so that they would be included in the 2nd edition. I never anticipated so many would have such a genuine interest in their ancestors.
Dear reader, I am pleased to be have completed this updated 2nd edition with new in- formation for you. Your suggestions were most helpful to me as your perspective opened new vistas to me. Many of you were kind enough to let me know of my errors so that I could correct them for this edition. For all your help with this book, my sincerest thanks, because we leave a legacy to our families and children and future generations.
In this new edition you can find more than 7,200 people named Eissler, or who are kin to each other. Because of the interest by English speaking Eissler´s in America the German has been translated. (Please, note that the date of birth is in the German form, first day, month and year) The register listing German, Austrian, American, and Canadian bearers of the family name (and variations) has been enlarged.
Those entries made in the chapter "In the Last Minute" in the 1st edition, have now been placed in correct chapters in this 2nd edition.
In the 1st edition, the last chapter, "In The Last Minute" has been changed to the "Last Moment". It contains new data received after the manuscript was completed and ready for publication. Where practicable a few pages were left blank so that future data and corrections could be completed. The Pedigree Charts show the various Eissler branches, so that you can trace your family back to one common Patriarchal ancestor. It is through these charts also, that you can see the interrelationship between branches, and their connection to the common ancestor. If you agree to accept the interrelationships, it resolves any question of the branches connecting to ONE common ancestor.
At the end of the book, there are some articles by local newspapers telling about me and my book. This proved to be invaluable in that it made unknown family members and their friends aware of this book, thus adding to its depth and speeding its completion.
In another way, it brought unknown family members together creating a personal closeness, that did not exist before.
Maybe sometime, somewhere, someone besides me, will get the urge to continue the family research and carry on the work of this book, because it is a "Never Ending Story ". It may be another 10 or 15 years before I will contemplate publishing a third edition of the "Die Eissler".
